YIOS (pronounced ee-os, Greek for "child") is a private day school sponsored by the Tokyo YMCA, a Christian service organization and a part of the international network of YMCAs. The school opened in September 1998 for Kindergarten through Grade 6, and will expand into a junior high school.
English is the basic medium of instruction, and Japanese language study is also offered. The school year begins in September and ends in June. YIOS welcomes children from all nations to learn together, seeking the truth and striving to understand each other with an open mind. YIOS's goal is to educate young learners in spirit, mind and body to live as responsible individuals in the world community. YIOS is governed by the YIOS Board of Directors and the General Secretary of the Tokyo YMCA, a nonprofit organization.
