I am aware of the American Club in Tokyo which looks great and I will certainly join up. I am wondering if there is an Aussie Club as well? Or, if not, anything else remotely 'Aussie' to try and meet some friends from back home? Also, I am a young expat, 28 yrs old and female (married) Is there anywhere to go to meet expats my age? I don't have kids.
Any suggestions would be very much appreciated. I do hope to hear from the experts out there who will surely have a much better idea than I!
I think there may be a Bitish club but I am not sure. I am Australian but my husbands company provided us with membership to the American Club so we didn't really shop around. I have met quite a few other Australians at the club. Tokyo is a huge city but the expat community seems to be clustered in little bunches so I'm sure you will have no trouble making friends. In the winter you can always going skiing in Niseko which turns into little Australia during the ski season. Good luck.
That's good to know, thanks for replying. I actually did find an Australian association there after all, something like the Australian society or called something like that. I did a Google and there is was! There is also an ladies assocation for those from both NZ and Oz which I am very keen to join as they do great trips and interesting activities!
TNB(Tokyo Notice Board) has lots of info in the personal section, available in supermarket and restaurant frequented by expats.
By the entrance of American Club is a magazine rack, get the mags you want, it's free.
I don't forget the Australian Ball held every Jan I believe (its been a while since I went to one). There also the variously scattered "Aussie Bars" around town.
