We'll most likely be moving to Tokyo in the fall. My husband's company gave us our compensation pakage with our budget. The compensation package said that we had to contribute monthly toward our rent in Tokyo. They assumed the money would come from renting out our home here. My husband asked if we could rent a place for less in Tokyo rather than having to rent our home here. At first they said it would be no problem since it wouldn't cost them any more money, but then they called back and said that the accounting firm that they're working with in Tokyo said that if we don't contribute something toward our rent , we could have a huge tax levied on us. Has anyone heard of such a thing? It sounds a little strange to me.
