This may sound a bit...well...dumb to some folk but I love mangos and until the other day only ate them at restaurants etc. I bought some and peeled them then sliced pieces off, but you don't get much cos of the middle. Is there a better way to peel or get the middle out? Sorry if this sounds naive but I really don't know! Cheers.
The normal way that people in Australia eat mangos is to slice off the two 'cheeks', ie the fleshy parts on both sides of the seed, by cutting as close as possible to the seed. You can then eat the flesh off these by whatever method you want, by cutting the flesh off the skin or whatever.
Depending on where you are, you can then suck the remaining flesh off the pit as Raincatcher has suggested - messy but delicious! If you're more fastidious you could probably cut some more flesh off the pit and eat it that way.
