I am planning to visit north west china sometime this year. Does anyone have any advice regarding when is the best time to go?
also best places to go other than the obvious, how to get around (whats the public transport like?)etc. etc.
I'll probably give it 10-14days including travel, does that sound reasonable to get a decent picture of this province? too much? too little?
your advice or stories please...
I visited Gansu province (adjoining and to the east of Xinjiang province) in February last year with 2 friends and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. It's very off-peak season but the snow scenery at Jiayuguan and the Mogao grottoes and Singing Sand Dunes at Dunhuang were breathtaking.
Going in September would also be good.
14 days for the province alone is probably ok.
thanks for that ellyse, i was thinking of going in the chinese new year break but a quick look at the average temperature killed that idea. Then I was thinking about May but someone told me the sand storms would ruin all my pics. its seems there is always a good reason not to go to Xingjiang! perhaps i should be patient and wait to september. thanks again
