Pinkie,
I allot depends on if you are Western or Asian and also what type of budget you have and your sense of style, which incorporates age, profession, lifestyle etc. In most of the world my industry has changed drastically over the past two decades. I will get more into this later because its important when making your choices.
Well, I have met several of the stylists that work there and am familiar with their management style and work. They are actually part of a group and have several salons in the area they oversee, own or manage. From my experience here in HK they seem to do very good work their main focus being locals, though I have a few clients that were happy there when they went in the past. They also appear to be well managed and consistant. I will be completely honest with you here, to my own detriment I am sure, but, I have been in this city for just over a year. During this time I have allot of experience with both Western and Asian Salons and I have to say that even if there was language barriery the Chinese salons have treated me with amazing respect though I was told by many that they would not. I find their salons (at the upper end of the market, aka central types) to be very easy going and welcoming. I have been so happy with them that I am going to partner with a local stylist when and if I decided to open my space. The main thing you need to watch is the language barrier but this can be over come in time with the right visual aids. On long hair most stylists here use a method of graduated layering (This is so on Western and Asian salons) . In todays market this a huge issue and why you see the bottoms of hair thin and the top heavy and thick. You want to make sure they understand interior layering and dry cutting to some degree.
I have to run, I have a suggestion for you...have a few consults with different locals first then pick the relationship you prefer. If your still in need I have been working very closely with a local team here in Central, I can introduce you to Sam or Nelson if you like. They are great guys and I can personally vouch for their work or would even stop by to help you with a consultation. Well, hope that helps...there is a section on the web site on picking your stylist if you need further advice...cheers.
